Bus Safety Guidelines
Bus
safety is everyone's concerndrivers, students, parents and
school administrators. Once students have boarded the bus, the
driver has complete responsibility. The bus is an extension of the
classroom therefore students are required to conduct themselves
according to standards established in the classroom. Disciplinary
problems will be handled in a progressive manner starting with a
verbal warning. Serious disciplinary problems may result in having
riding privileges suspended by the school principal.
Here
are some simple guidelines for safety:
-
Be
on time at the bus stopfive to 10 minutes before the bus is
scheduled to arrive.
-
Stand
at least 15 feet from where the bus will stop, away from
traffic, so that the driver can see you clearly.
-
Wait
for the bus to come to a complete stop before crossing the
road, boarding or exiting.
-
Cross
the road at least 10 feet in front of the bus to make sure the
driver can see you.
-
Make eye
contact with the bus driver, and wait for the bus driver's
signal before crossing the street.
-
Never go
under the bus to retrieve something you've dropped. Notify
the bus driver if you've dropped something and he/she will
take care of it.
-
Properly
secure your seat belt and remain seated.
-
Keep
hands, feet etc. inside of the bus and never throw anything out the
window.
-
No eating or drinking is
allowed on the bus.
-
Be
sure all personal items, book bags, etc., can fit on their lap
or directly under their seat
-
Exit the
bus from front to back in an orderly fashion. Child seated
closest to the aisle exits first, followed by the passenger
next to the window.
-
Be alert
to traffic. Check both ways for cars before stepping off the
bus.
