Superintendent Search
Duanesburg Board of Education
selects new superintendent

September 6, 2007 -- After a thorough and extensive search for a new superintendent of schools, the Duanesburg Board of Education selected Christine Crowley for the position.

“I am thrilled to join the Duanesburg community as superintendent of schools," said Crowley. “I was very impressed with the school board, administrators, faculty, parents and community members that I met during the interview process.”

Crowley is expected to begin her duties at the Duanesburg Central School District on or about October 1.

“Christine has excellent credentials, a great personality and leadership style,” said Board President Raymond Hawes. “We expect that she will make our district even better than it is today, and that she will continue the growth that was made under the leadership of Dr. Mark Villanti over the past few years.”

“The other two finalists were very capable and strong leaders.” Hawes added. “I have no doubt that they will each become superintendents in other school districts soon.”

Crowley joins Duanesburg with more than 24 years of education experience. She has served as principal of Northeastern Clinton Central High School in Champlain, New York for the past six years. She also served as the district's Director of Special Education for one year. Crowley began her career teaching mathematics at St. Agnes School and also taught at Paul Smith's College, two correctional institutions and Albany High School.

Crowley holds a master's degree in educational studies from Plattsburgh State University, and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the State University of New York at Potsdam. She is a graduate of the Superintendent's Development Program at the State University of New York at Oswego.

The Board of Education, with the assistance of the Capital Region BOCES, began the search process in March after former superintendent Dr. Mark Villanti announced his resignation. The board received more than 20 applications from which three finalists were selected for interviews with the Board of Education as well as four committees made up of parents, community members, staff and administrators.
