Superintendent's
Corner
October 18, 2007
Dear Students, Staff and Families:
Im sure that you have heard that two students in the Saratoga
County area were diagnosed with staph bacteria infections in
September and October of this year. We are not aware of any cases in
our district in Duanesburg but plan to be pro-active and sanitize
common areas with the recommended commercial disinfectants or a
1:100 solution of diluted bleach (1 tablespoon bleach in 1 quart
water). Please encourage your children to not share towels, water
bottles or sports equipment. They should wash their hands with soap
and water frequently and shower with soap immediately after
participating in sports. Any wound should be covered completely with
a bandage.
The actual skin infection may begin looking like a spider bite with
a reddened area. It is important to seek medical attention
immediately if you notice an area of concern.
I want to assure you that your childrens teachers, coaches and
administrators will take all necessary precautions to keep your
children safe while in our care. We will encourage them to wash
their hands with both soap and water frequently. The Duanesburg
school community takes our job of protecting your children
seriously. We know that you will work with us to reinforce good
hygiene.
If you would like more information, please visit
www.health.state.ny.us or www.cdc.gov. We appreciate your support
and value our partnership to insure the safety of all of our
children.
Sincerely,
Christine Crowley
