Superintendent's
Corner
March 17, 2007
Dear Faculty, Support Staff, Families, Students and Community
Members:
There is no easy way to write this note. After almost six years as
your superintendent of schools I have pursued other positions. This
was a very difficult decision because I love serving the students,
staff and community of Duanesburg.
Recently I spoke to the Duanesburg Board of Education to indicate
that I am a finalist with the Haldane Central School District. Their
last step in the process is a site visit. The Haldane CSD is located
minutes from Southern Dutchess County where I worked for over 20
years of my professional career.
Recently driving home on a late, cold, windy night I asked myself a
simple question, “Did I want to drive almost two hours a day for the
remainder of my professional career?” I have been conflicted about
applying to other school districts, but came to the conclusion that
this decision is in the best interest of my family, career and
future health.
A team of representatives from the Haldane Central School District
will be in Duanesburg this Friday, March 16th to visit our schools.
Over six years ago a team from Duanesburg visited my former high
school, John Jay, where I was a principal. Duanesburg is a special
place. The thought of leaving the school district is a difficult and
emotional one.
I will keep the district informed of my discussions with Haldane and
appreciate your understanding and support.
Sincerely,
Mark Villanti, Ed.D.
