Photo of the audience during the elementary school's Veterans Day celebrationNovember 19, 2007 -- Duanesburg Elementary School parents, students and community members sang America the Beautiful as local veterans proudly carried the American flag into the auditorium for the school's annual Veterans Day celebration on Nov. 8.

The event featured singing of the Star Spangled Banner, Five Branches Medley, We Honor Those Who Served, Duanesburg's Family and God Bless America, as well as a welcoming song, the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence.

All of the students worked very hard to learn all of these songs.

Fourth and fifth grade student council representatives presented readings on the history of Veterans Day, while first grade students shared the posters they made thanking veterans for their service. Students listened intently to the guest speaker Mr. Christopher Smalls and and asked thoughtful questions.

Faculty members Julie McLean, Mary Neitzel, Chris Danapilis, Kelly SanFilippo and Mary Clare Waltz learned and sang One Song by Pepper Chaplin.

Many thanks to all of the students who sang so well and to all of the teachers who provided their support and assistance. A special thanks to all of the veterans who serve and have served to keep our country free.
