March 17, 2008 – On Saturday,
March 29, the Duanesburg community will celebrate its fifth
annual Duanesburg Day by recognizing its local heritage and
culture, past, present and future, at the Duanesburg
Middle/High School. The free popular event continues to grow
each year—adding more activities, exhibits, music and fun
for students, parents and community members of all ages.
The Duanesburg Central School District along with the
Duanesburg Historical Society, the New York Folklore Society
and the Duanesburg Area Community Center (DACC) will sponsor
the day’s activities from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO) is sponsoring
a raffle, silent auction and gently used dress/accessory
sale to help raise money for the PTSO Community Assistance
Fund, which supports local families in crisis. This year,
all proceeds will benefit the Lees family to help them
during this difficult time.
Auction items currently include gift certificates from local
businesses, gift baskets, antiques and collectibles. Members
of the community who would like to donate an item to the
fund should contact Hank Dunn at 895-2742.
Two guided bus tours will visit historical landmarks in
Duanesburg—Quaker Street and the Episcopal Church.
Interested parties are encouraged to sign-up at the welcome
table on the day of the event. Both buses will leave from
the middle/high school.
Shuttles will be available throughout the day to bring
community members to the DACC to tour their new facility on
Victoria Drive. The DACC will also sponsor a free Chopper
Hopper for children.
Student projects focusing on Duanesburg’s history and
heritage will be on display throughout the school and
musical performers “Hearts of Rhythm” will provide live
entertainment.
Community members will also have the opportunity to meet
with local government officials including Village Mayor
Sally Burns, Town Supervisor Rene Merrihew and Assemblyman
George Amedore.
In the event of inclement
weather, Duanesburg Day will be rescheduled to Sunday, March 30, from
12 to 5 p.m.
For more information including
a complete schedule of events, visit the
Duanesburg Day section
of the district Web site.
