September 24, 2007 -- Kindergarten through fifth grade students on the same bus route met for the first peaceful bus activity of the year on Sept. 24.

The 50-minute session is part of the Peaceful Bus Program initiated by Duanesburg Elementary School students two years ago to create a more positive, peaceful bus ride to and from school.

Older students paired with younger students to discuss their favorite food, activity, animal and place—helping them get to know each other better through icebreaking activities.

Students also watched and discussed a video created by Computer Technician Jeff Granger with the help of Principal Dr. O'Brien, Bus Driver Mrs. Kass, Dani Hennel
Maddy Kenyon, Kelly Pruskowski and Mr. Falco's Third Grade Class, which emphasized the importance of bus safety. Visit School Bus Safety Guidelines for safety tips. They also explored how SOAR principles, an innovative character education program, reinforce
student behavior on the bus.

Students will meet several more times throughout the 2007-08 school year.
