September
2, 2009—For young children, moving from preschool or home to
kindergarten is one of the most significant transitions they
will experience.
Fortunately,
the district’s kindergarten orientation program—held on
Sept. 2—is designed to help ease the transition for both
incoming kindergartners and their parents.
During the
one-hour program, students became acquainted with the school
building as well as their classroom, teacher and
peers—helping to calm their nerves and create excitement
about the upcoming school year.
Students also had an opportunity to ride a school bus. While
they took a short ride around the elementary school parking
lot, parents learned about bus routes, procedures and safety
guidelines from Transportation Supervisor Harry Folckemer
and Head Bus Driver Pegi Venter.
The district began offering full-day kindergarten last
school year. The new program offers more time for learning
in a more relaxed atmosphere.
School begins
officially on Wednesday, Sept. 9, for all students
districtwide. |
