    Six candidates vie
for three open seats on the Board of Education

May 20, 2009 Update - Incumbent Bridget Holmes (555 votes) and newcomers Christina Loudikes (432) and John McKeeby (382) were elected to the board on May 19. The following candidates were not elected to the board: William Wenzel (272), Henry "Gus" Geidel (301) and Charles Mueller (240).

April 22, 2009 – On May 19, voters will select three candidates to fill three open seats on the Duanesburg Board of Education. Six candidates submitted nominating petitions for seats on the board by the April 20th New York State deadline.

Longtime board members Raymond W. Hawes and Dr. James Breitenstein are not seeking re-election, while Bridget Holmes is seeking her fourth term on the board. The previously announced vacancy for John Iseman’s seat on the board will not be on the May 19 ballot. He remains on the board at this time.

Board members serve three-year terms, beginning on July 1, 2009. All positions are unpaid.

Meet the Candidates Night
Residents will have an opportunity to pose questions and hear the candidates discuss their views at a “Meet the Candidates Night,” sponsored by the Duanesburg PTSO, on Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Duanesburg High School library. 

Candidates, in the order they'll appear on the ballot, are listed below.

Christina Loukides
Photo of board candidate Christina LoukidesChristina Loukides is seeking her first term on the board. She is employed by Capital Region BOCE S as a teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing. Loukides earned her bachelor's degree in art history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, her master's degree in deaf education from Adelphi University, and her special education certification from Lehman College. Loukides is an active member of the Duanesburg PT SO, and previously served as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 51. She lives in Delanson with her husband, Theodore, and their two elementary/middle school-aged children.


Bridget Holmes
Photo of incumbent Bridget HolmesBridget Holmes is running for her fourth term on the school board. She is an adjunct instructor at the College of aint Rose. Holmes is an active member of the Duanesburg PT SO. She earned her bachelor's degree from Russell Sage College and her master's degree in education from Smith College. She lives in Delanson with her husband, Christopher, and their four children: two of which attend the middle school, one attends the elementary school and one attends the high school.


William Wenzel
Photo of board candidate William WenzelWilliam Wenzel is seeking his first term on the school board. He has been self-employed as a home improvement contractor since 2007. Prior to that, he was an accountant in manufacturing for 25 years. He serves as a volunteer for the Hudson-Mohawk Pioneer Gas Engine Association and the Voorheesville Chapter of the American Legion. Wenzel earned his bachelor's degree in finance from the College of Saint Rose. He lives in Delanson with his wife, Wendy, and their two elementary-aged children.
 


Henry “Gus” Geidel

Henry "Gus" Geidel is seeking his first term on the Duanesburg Board of Education. He is manager of information services at Albany Medical Center and owner of ConnX Consulting. Geidel founded the Duanesburg Chapter of the American Youth Soccer Organization in 2007. Since then, he has served as a coach, administrator and assistant regional coordinator. He also serves as the district's junior varsity boys' soccer coach. Geidel attended St. Lawrence University where he earned his bachelor's degree in science and mathematics. He lives in Delanson with his wife, Heather.


John M. McKeeby
Photo of board candidate John McKeebyJohn M. McKeeby is seeking his first term on the board. He is the director of education and outreach programs for WaterShed Assessment Associates, LLC and executive director of Schoharie River Center, Inc. He has served on the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department and the Duanesburg Area Community Center. McKeeby holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Siena College, a master's degree in human behavior and development from Drexel University and a post master's degree in family therapy from the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Esperance with his wife, Ellen, and their three middle/high school-aged children.


Charles C. Mueller
Photo of board candidate Charles MuellerCharles C. Mueller is seeking his first term on the board. He is a district manager for Subway. Mueller graduated from Shaker High School. He is a volunteer with the Duanesburg Fire Department, Boy Scouts and Duanesburg Area Community Center, where he served on the board and as head of employee relations. He also served on the board for Habitat for Humanity and Friends of the Fourth. Mueller lives in Delanson with his wife, Corinnne, and their three middle school-aged children.
