December 5, 2006 - A group of Duanesburg
High School students will join students from the six other
Schenectady County school districts to discuss the topics of
race and racism on December 5 and 12.
The students will meet at
Union College to participate in Study Circles for Schenectady
County Teens, a collaboration of Schenectady County Embraces
Diversity and the seven high schools in the county.
"Study Circles is a fantastic opportunity for DCS students to
share their ideas and opinions with students from other high
schools, which are experiencing both similar and different
issues than us," said High School Guidance Counselor Alicia
Kirkpatrick. "Our students will create a plan to implement at
DCS so the entire high school will actually learn from their
experience."
During the sessions, students will examine the topics of race
and racism, share their ideas, listen to others and explore
answers in an open, comfortable setting. At the conclusion of
the session, the groups will join together to identify steps
that may be taken to reduce the problem of racism.
