DCS bids farewell to
longtime school official, welcomes new business administrator,
supervisor of buildings and grounds
December 22, 2006 – The Duanesburg
Board of Education recently appointed Brenda Kane as the district’s
new business administrator. She replaces Interim Business
Administrator Lewis DeFilippo, who will retire officially on Friday,
December 22, after more than 20 years with the district. Kane’s
first day was Monday, December 18.
DeFilippo first retired in 2001
after serving as the district’s business administrator from 1982 to
1991 and then as superintendent until he retired. He returned to the
district in 2003 to serve as the interim business administrator.
“Lew in many ways has been my mentor,” said Superintendent Dr. Mark
Villanti. “He has such a great heart, work ethic and tremendous
pride and loyalty.”
“The district feels fortunate to bring someone of Kane’s caliber and
business sense on staff,” said Villanti. “We believe she is a good
match for the business administrator position and will be a great
asset to Duanesburg because she grew up in and currently lives in a
small town and understands the culture of a small town school
community.”
Kane comes to the district after serving most recently as the
business manager at Albany Community Charter School in Albany. She
was previously a business manager at the International Charter
School of Schenectady for four years, and completed an
administrative internship with the Canajoharie Central School
District in 2005.
Kane earned a master’s degree in accounting from the SUNY Institute
of Technology in Utica, New York, and has a Certificate of Advanced
Study in Educational Administration from the University at Albany.
Kane is certified with the New York State School Business
Administrator Certificate.
“I believe my education and experience will allow me to effectively
manage Duanesburg’s resources which will in turn allow us to
continue to offer outstanding programs while being mindful of the
concerns of local taxpayers,” said Kane.
Kane lives in Canajoharie with her husband and two sons Christopher,
3 and Bradley, 16.
In October, the Board of Education
appointed Duanesburg resident Aanen Aanensen as the new supervisor
of buildings and grounds.
Aanensen earned his plumbing certificate from the Journeyman
Apprentice Training Program in California, and received his master
plumber license in New York State and Connecticut. He was previously
self-employed in the plumbing, heating and wood business. Prior to
that, he was a project manager for Crisafulli Brothers in Albany for
six years, and served as a foreman for Schultz Construction in Round
Lake for several years.
“Knowing and living in the community is a great benefit to this
position,” said Villanti. “Aanen takes great pride in our schools.
He possesses boundless energy and a desire to make things better.”
