June 25, 2007 - On Friday, June 22, approximately 72 students
representing the Class of 2007 accepted their diplomas in front
of their families, friends and district staff at the 56th
commencement ceremony held in the newly air-conditioned High
School gym.
"Many people look at a ceremony
such as this as an ending... but I see it as a beginning point,
the first day en route to a positive future," said High School
Principal Bill LeForestier as he reflected on the past few years
and expectations for the future.
During the ceremony both the
valedictorian and salutatorian encouraged their peers to never
give up on their goals and dreams or forget about their roots in
Duanesburg.
Alicia Cook, daughter of Paula
and Jerry Cook of Delanson, said, "In life, there is more than
one way to reach a goal... If you truly want something, you will
find a way to be successful."
Salutatorian Christopher Maher,
son of Russell and Joanne Maher of Delanson, said, "No matter
where we go, we should never forget that we came from
Duanesburg."
In addition to the wonderful speeches, the audience also enjoyed
a slideshow presentation of pictures—both old and new—of the
senior class and performances by the NYSSMA rated (gold with
distinction) Select Choir of "He's Going Away," "For We Wish You
Music" and "Moon River."
Congratulations graduates and good luck!
