"Coins for Cows" fund-raiser benefits the Ruther Family Dairy Farm

February 7, 2007 - Nearly $900 was donated by Duanesburg Elementary School students, staff and community members during the “Coins for Cows" fund-raiser to benefit the Ruther Family Dairy Farm.

Mr. Ruther accepts a check from the "Coins for Cows" fundraiser.

Mr. Ruther is a bus driver for the school. In early January, a fire swept the grounds of his fifth-generation farm on Hardin Road in Duanesburg and took the lives of seven cows. Several cows remain under veterinarian care due to burns. The remaining 100 cows are being housed at another local farm. However, the calves have been returned to the farm and are being cared for in a makeshift tent-barn. The fire also destroyed their entire supply of hay

Many thanks to everyone who generously made a donation to help rebuild the dairy farm.
