Duanesburg Central
School District needs your help; substitute RNs needed
January 29, 2007 - School districts across the
nation are struggling with a nursing shortage and there is no
exception in the Duanesburg Central School District.
Currently,
there is one full-time nurse at the Elementary School and at the
Middle/High School there is one full-time nurse and one full-time
nurse/health teacher. However, if any of the nurses are absent for
any reason there are only two substitute nurses available for
coverage.
"If there are members of the school community who are Registered
Nurses and have the extra time to help out, we'd love to have them,"
said Superintendent Dr. Mark Villanti. Learn more...
The substitute school nurse position requires a current Registered
Nurse (RN) license. Experience with children and adolescents are a
plus, as well as, good communication and organization skills.
However, on-the-job training will be available, as well as an
orientation program for interested individuals to help them become
acquainted with health services within a school community.
"If you like working with children and families, this is public
health at its best," said Middle/High School Nurse/Teacher Gayle
Beaudoin.
A school nurses' typical day consists of emergency/injury care;
episodic illness care; management of chronic illness; mental health
counseling and crisis intervention; medication administration;
immunization management, nutritional education; providing age
appropriate growth and development education; and consultation with
parents.
"Your school community needs your help," said Elementary School
Nurse Melissa Roennpagel. If you or anyone you know may be
