Duanesburg students
join their peers to devise solutions to community issues in
Schenectady County
June 20, 2006 - Famed anthropologist Margaret Mead once said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
In early June, a 10-member group of Duanesburg High School students
committed to participate in Schenectady's County's 2006 Student Solve
forum to develop solutions - not to world problems but to specific real-life issues a little closer to home.
Student teams from the seven Schenectady County school districts
met at the fourth annual Student Solve
program held at Schenectady County Community College, to brainstorm ideas to resolve some of the all-to-real challenges and problems the community faces.
The Duanesburg team - including students Ana Cass, Bryan Preston, Sarah Klopman, Brook Rowley, Chelsey Hochmuth, Zach Martineau, John Mayo, Rachel Casper, John Michael Iseman and Catie Murphy - chose to address the growing problem of youth gambling.
