College financial aid night set for Dec. 2
College-bound juniors, seniors, and their parents should not miss the district's annual Financial Aid Night set for Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. in Duanesburg High School's library. SUNY Cobleskill's Director of Financial Aid Brian Smith will discuss the procedure for filing federal, state, local and institution-based financial aid for both public and private colleges. We hope to see you there.

Informational fair for students with disabilities and their parents set for Nov. 12
Students with disabilities and their parents are invited to attend an informational fair to plan for the transition from high school to adult life. The event will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Shaker High School in the Taft Dining Room.

The chamber's quarterly Business and Education Partnership quarterly e-newsletter offers updates and information about the chamber's workforce development programs, including the certificate of employability program, Career Expo 2010, the Careers in Action job shadowing program and even scholarship opportunities. Upcoming SCCC tour schedule for high school students with disabilities
Schenectady County Community College has set up the following tour schedule for high school students with disabilities interested in meeting with disabled student services on campus.
  • Monday, October 26, 1 p.m.
    ADA Transition Workshop followed by a SCCC campus tour.
     
  • Wednesday, November 4th, from 4-7 p.m.
    40th Anniversary Open House
    There will be many demonstrations, workshops and tours of the campus. This event is free and open to the public. Opportunity to meet with Disability Services, TRIO Services and Admissions.
     
  • Wednesday, November 18, 9 a.m.
    ADA Transition Workshop, followed by a campus tour.
     
  • Wednesday Dec. 2, 9 a.m.
    This is a scheduled Group Information Day, which includes Admissions, Academic and Financial Aid Information as well as a campus tour. The ADA Transition Workshop will be held at 11 a.m.

ASVAB career assessment set for Dec. 11
The Duanesburg Central School District will be offering tenth- through twelfth-grade students the opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) career assessment on Friday, Dec. 11. There is no fee to take the test. Learn more about the test...

Save the date
HVCC's Recipe for College Success, March 23, 2010
The 2010 "Recipe for College Success" Conference for tenth- through twelfth-graders with disabilities and their parents will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Hudson Valley Community College, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Workshops include information on financial aid, assistive technology, accessing disability services on campus, tours of the HVCC campus and a presentation by VESID. Registration materials, including workshop descriptions, will be available in February.

Please note that transportation will not be provided by the school district.
