PTSO hosts bullying prevention talk this Thursday

Parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend a presentation about bullying prevention strategies April 10 at 6:30 p.m., in the high school MOCC, hosted by the Duanesburg PTSO. Presenter Laura Combs of the Capital Region BOCES will share the latest information and ideas for talking children about bullying.

Free Horse Sense program offered for children of military families

Date change for Talent Show

Due to extenuating circumstances, the talent show originally scheduled for April 4 will take place on Friday, April 25, from 6-9 p.m. Dress rehearsal will be Thursday April 24th at 7 p.m. rather than April 3.

DCS launched the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program this fall to foster a more positive and productive learning environment. PBIS is a team approach, involving teachers, administrators, staff, students and their families - fosterall of whom are asked to take a short online survey to gauge the effectiveness of the PBIS program to-date. Second graders pen book

March 10, 2014 

In early February, students in Lori Lasher's second grade class began writing "Do you think we'll have a snowday?" On March 7, they mailed their manuscript to a book publisher. "Students and parents are very excited to see the finished work!" said their proud teacher.

Students and staff kicked off a positive year at Duanesburg Elementary on Sept. 20, with a host of fun and educational activities celebrating the school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Grand Kick Off Day. Students had fun while learning how to be respectful, responsible and healthy, too. PBIS is aimed at creating a school environment where more time is used for learning and less for discipline. Student and teacher assignments: A delicate balance

Assigning students to a teacher is a task that is taken very seriously at DCS, with a goal of to creating balanced classrooms by finding the best possible fit for each student and teacher.

Best practices/models for teacher-student classroom assignments and optimal classroom productivity methods have been shared among educators for years. Coupling those practices/models with the careful planning used by DCS teachers in assigning students to a teacher is why school officials have always refrained from accepting teacher requests from parents.

“We understand that convenience and familiarity play a role in parents wanting the same teacher to educate their other children,” says Superintendent Christine Crowley. “But we have a responsibility to all students to create a well-balanced classroom that takes many factors into consideration.” READ MORE
