pre-kindergarten &
Full Day Kindergarten

Does the district have any plans to offer a pre-kindergarten program?

Response heading

There are no plans to start a pre-kindergarten program at this time. The idea was explored by a committee in the fall of 2007. They examined the possibility of starting a program in-house or with a community partner, and determined that the district did not have enough space or funding to run an in-house program. The state does not currently provide any specific funding for such a program. Additionally, when state funding (full-day conversion aid and a start-up grant) became available for a full-day kindergarten program, this became the district's first priority.

Has the kindergarten orientation (which is held at Duanesburg Elementary School each year in September) been scheduled yet?

Response heading

Yes, kindergarten orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2, 2009, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the elementary school.

I was told that the kindergarten class was now full day. I was also told that it was only a temporary thing for a year to see how it goes. Is this true and will it continue to be a full day. I have a child who will start kindergarten next year (2010) and am going to enroll him in preschool but wasn't sure if I should do 2.5 hours or 4.5 hours day to help him transition.

Response heading

The district began offering a full-day kindergarten program during the 2008-09 school year. There are no plans to change the existing program.
