I was told by my 6th grader that she needs to bring a book to lunch and read for 15 minutes before eating her lunch...leaving her only 15 minutes to get and eat lunch. I find this hard to believe that this could possibly be true, but I thought I would check here. If true, I would think there is some kind of mandate that allots a minimum amount of time for lunch..15 minutes being insufficient in my opinion....

Sixth-graders have the opportunity to use the first 13 minutes of their 43-minute lunch period to complete their sustained silent reading—leaving them with 30 minutes to purchase and eat lunch. Typically middle school students complete this reading assignment during study hall. However, sixth-graders were given this option in an effort to free their study hall for homework and extra help.
