Recently, neighboring school district's have sent letters home with children imploring parents not to send sick kids to school due to unusually severe illness this year, why has this not been done here ?

Updated information, including a letter from the superintendent is now available in the H1N1 resources section of the district Web site. The letter will also be sent home with elementary students.

Why can't the school send at least something home (again other than the notice in the beginning of the year) encouraging parents to keep their sick children home?

The district is planning to provide updated information about the flu soon. A link will be provided here once it becomes available. Information is now posted in the H1N1 resources section of the district Web site.

Where can I see the bill for last years yearbook costs? I would think this is certainly public information. I would like to compare. Have we switched yearbook companies? Like we switched our school attorney? And who knows what else in the last 18 months.

Have there been an usual amount of absences due to illness this week (Oct. 26-30, 2009)?
![]()
Absenteeism rates have been fluctuating on a
daily basis. There was an increase in student absences last week, more
so at elementary school, but not at a level the district considered
alarming.
We believe the high absenteeism is due, in part, to the fact that school
nurses are sending more children home during the day when they have
flu-like symptoms, and that more parents are keeping their children home
at the first sign of illness. This is exactly what health authorities
are asking everyone to do to help prevent the spread of both colds and
influenza-like illness.
Please rest assured that we are monitoring the situation in our schools
and will continue to work closely with school nurses and local health
authorities to remain vigilant about prevention and to provide the
safest learning environment possible for our students.

Are Halloween costumes allowed to be worn on Friday?
![]()
Students must comply with the district's dress code at all times. Please review the guidelines on page 11 of the Code of Conduct (PDF). While the district does not encourage the wearing of costumes, the dress code does not prohibit it. Costumes must be safe, appropriate and not disrupt or interfere with learning. This means costumes must not promote and/or endorse the use of alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs and /or encourage other illegal or violent activities. No brief or see-through garments. Students who violate the student dress code shall be required to modify their appearance by covering or removing the offending item, and, if necessary or practical replacing it with an acceptable item. Any student who refuses to do so shall be subject to discipline.

Was there an attempted abduction of someone on the track team?
![]()
No, there was not an attempted abduction. A member of the track team was walking home after practice and reported that a suspicious van was following him. He claimed that the van was driving slowly and that the individual was staring at him. There was no interaction between the student and the van. Because student safety is of the upmost concern, the police and the district's school resource officer were contacted about the incident.

Duanesburg received a grant from Proctors back in July? This only became know to taxpayers recently. Why? This certainly makes the entire Proctors issue look fishy.
![]()
The superintendent learned that Proctor's Theatre offered grants to schools during a district superintendent meeting held at the facility in July. Shortly after that meeting, the administrative team as well as several interested teachers visited the site to learn more about the programming and how it could enhance student's learning experiences. They all agreed it was an exciting initiative and decided to pursue the grant. In August, the district was notified that it had been awarded a $10,000 grant, which allows elementary, middle and high school students to attend Proctor's events free of charge. An article was posted on the district Web site and September newsletter at that time. Whether or not graduation was held at Proctor's, the district would have accepted the grant.

In order to have a senior page in the yearbook students are required to sell $300 in ads. This year's class has 78 kids. Does it really cost $23,400 to print the yearbook? This doesn't include the $45 sales price. This seems excessive.
![]()
It actually costs more than the amount mentioned above to produce and print the full-color yearbook. To help offset some of those costs, students with senior pages sell ad space. However, not all seniors opted to have a senior page this year so they are not required to sell ads. To make-up the difference, the yearbook is being sold for $45.
