School District Highlights
Duanesburg students are always
finding new ways to excel and grow, thanks in part to district
residents investment in their education. Here are just a few
success stories from the 2008-09 school year.
- The
Duanesburg Central School District was ranked 11 out of 85
school districts in an 11-county area in an analysis
performed by the Albany Business Review newspaper in October
2008.
- 86 percent
of the Class of 2008 earned a New York State Regents diploma
while 38 percent earned an Advanced Regents diploma.
- Duanesburg
students have many opportunities to earn college credit
while in high school by taking advantage of the nearly 17
Advanced Placement and University in the High School courses
that are offered. Students also have access to distance
learning and Project Lead the Way courses.
- Duanesburg
educators have been recognized for their dedication and
professionalism by local media outlets and business
organizations, such as WNYT’s Educator of the Week and
YMCA’s Outstanding Educator Award.
- Duanesburg
athletes excel on the field and in the classroom,
consistently earning the New York State Public High School
Athletic Association’s Scholar-Athlete team awards for
having a set number of members who maintain a grade point
average greater than 90.
- Student
musicians compete at the highest level of the New York State
School Music Association competition, earning the honor of
performing with the Area All-State Festival.
- For the
first-time ever, two students will represent the Duanesburg
Central School District at the New York State History Day
competition in May 2009.
- Each year,
students, staff and community members work together to help
those who are less fortunate. For example, more than 250
unwrapped toys were collected for the annual Toys for Tots
program this holiday season. The Friends of Rachel’s
Challenge Club collected 80 pairs of eyeglasses, which were
donated to third-world countries.
- In March
2009, the district was honored for its leadership in
promoting a tobacco-free school environment by the Center
for Smoking Cessation at Seton Health, Reality Check and
Tobacco-Free Healthy Schools.
- Students
are gaining exposure to foreign language as early as
kindergarten through the district’s new Foreign Language
Early Start program.
