Academics

Each year, the Duanesburg Central School District has steadily inched its way toward the top 10 in the Capital District Business Review’s annual report on area school districts.

DCS is committed to preparing students to meet the academic demands of a Regents diploma, and much more, on their way to successful careers and rewarding lives.

DCS offers a K-12 program designed to promote the academic and personal development of all students. Besides traditional academic courses, our students may participate in a number of unique programs:

  • Project Lead the Way, a pre-engineering curriculum for high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in engineering and/or technology.

  • Advanced Placement courses offering college-level study in art, environmental science, physics, psychology, U.S. history and world history. Honors calculus with an AP option, Honors English 11 with an AP option in Literature and Honors English 12 with an AP option in Language are also available to high school students each year.

  • Strong support for the arts, with art instruction and music classes and lessons beginning in the elementary grades, and a collaborative arts program with Proctor's Theater that introduces students to music, art and dance from different cultures.

  • Second language instruction beginning in grade 6.

  • Vocational and career education opportunities provided by the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical School; as well as the New Visions program that gives honors-level students hands-on experience in several professional careers.

  • Academic Intervention Services in the core subjects to provide additional instruction to students struggling to meet New York State’s learning standards.

  • An interscholastic athletic program offering students opportunities to compete in soccer, volleyball, cross-country, basketball, bowling, wrestling, cheerleading, softball, baseball, track and golf.

  • A nature trail that provides elementary students with an outdoor experiential program focusing on science and physical education.

  • Dozens of extracurricular clubs and activities, including a school newspaper, drama club, Student Council and MasterMinds team.
