Duanesburg
helps nurture tomorrow's leaders
He or she is "a born leader." That's a phase we've all heard or used
at one time or another.
But in reality, most leaders are not born into it. Leadership is a
quality that is nurtured over time through education, role modeling,
and often through athletics.
Learning this firsthand recently was about a dozen Duanesburg
student-athletes who were selected to attend the Western Athletic
Conference Student-Athlete Leadership Day at SUNY Cobleskill in
January. The one-day event was geared for students in grades 7
through 9 as they prepare to move onto the next level in their
athletic careers - junior varsity and varsity sports.

Science fair sparks imaginative learning
Why do fish sleep? Why do leaves change color? Why does it rain?
These are some of the questions that Duanesburg students in
kindergarten through eighth grade explored for several months before
sharing their discoveries during the district's annual science fair on Saturday, Nov. 17.
The following students were
named blue ribbon winners: Alan Baum, Gage Black, Tucker Damato,
Alex Fiorini, Domenic Gallo, Salvatore Gallo, Nicole Jarvis,
Rosemary Jarvis, Austin Kellerman, Mary Rachel Keville, Taryn
LaFontaine, Rylie Lohret, Benjamin Manning, Paul Munson,
Annabelle Rieseler, Peter Tkaczyk, Hannah Wilson and Ethan Wolf.
"We are very proud of the
students who have worked hard to bring us research and
innovation of their very own design at the science fair this
year," said Elementary Principal Katie O'Brien.

Eighth graders
explore rocket science |

Duanesburg eighth grade students
participated in a fun and exciting unit on rocketry involving
math, science and technology this fall. After discussing
Newton's laws and other aspects of rocketry, students spent four
days working with a partner to design and assemble a rocket
personalized with a variety of colors and other designs. The
unit culminated with a rocket launch on the upper soccer field
on a beautiful fall day in October. |

Mandatory
immunization requirements
for incoming sixth-grade students |
| Students who are
entering sixth grade or a comparable age-level on or after
September 1, 2007, and who are 11 years of age or older must
receive an immunization containing tetanus toxoids, diphtheria
and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap).
If a student has received a Td,
Dt, or DTaP vaccination within the last two years, the student's
Tdap vaccination should be deferred (with rare exceptions) until
a period of two years has elapsed.
Ten year old students who are
entering sixth grade will not be required to receive a Tdap
vaccine and will not be excluded from school, but they must be
flagged, tracked and immunized when they turn 11 years old. |
