Suggested Readiness Activities

As you and your child prepare for the upcoming kindergarten year, this list of activities can be incorporated into your child’s routine and emphasized with your help.

• Read to your child

• Encourage social play with other children (play group, preschool or neighbors)

• Practice listening to and following one and two step directions

• Practice taking turns

• Discuss and practice sharing

• Encourage language and speaking skills

• Visit a local library to borrow books

• Make collages by cutting and gluing magazine pictures (i.e. colors, people, transportation, food, etc.)

• Identify different objects by color or shape

• Count objects

• Play with puzzles

• Look for and make patterns

• Practice tying shoes

• Teach independent toileting skills
