Community Service Club/Adopt An Angel
The Community Service Club (CSC), at their December 5th meeting, made wreaths to decorate our doors as their community service project. The students did an outstanding job and the wreaths looked lovely. CSC students also supported the Make A Wish – Adopt An Angel program in December, selling angels for $1.00 each. We contributed $190 to the Make A Wish Foundation. Thank you to all who supported this worthy cause.

Toys for Tots
Thank you to all who contributed to the Toys for Tots campaign. Duanesburg Central School District K-12, including the Bus Garage, collected 303 toys. Thank you to Cub Scout Pack 51 for their generous donation. A special thank you to Lori Galea – Program Coordinator this year, Lori Kuhl at the high school and Peg Venter at the Bus Garage for their help with this year’s campaign. Again, thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s campaign such a success. The generosity of the Duanesburg School community is deeply appreciated.

Winter Weather/Delays/Closing
The winter weather is upon us. Please ensure that your child(ren) are properly attired for the weather and frigid temperatures. Hats, gloves, heavy coats, boots, scarves, and possibly snow pants are needed. For delays and cancellations you can: 1) go on-line to cancellations.com, 2) listen for cancellations on local TV/radio stations, or 3) call school at 895-8310, press 8 (or ext. 800). In the event of a one-hour delay morning kindergarten will be held, and the morning breakfast program will run. In the event of a two-hour delay morning kindergarten and wrap-around kindergarten will not be held; and the morning breakfast program will not run.

Passing Buses
Vehicles are not allowed to pass a stopped school bus with flashing red lights at anytime. At dismissal, buses park in the traffic circle with their engines off so our children do not inhale fumes. Only the first and last bus will have flashing red lights. No cars can pass these buses for student safety and legal reasons. Parents and visitors are encouraged to park away from the buses in the visitor parking area or the new parking area along the drive.

Extended Art - Grade 4
The 4th grade after-school Extended Art program begins 1/11/07. Permission slips will go home when we return from holiday break.

Ski Club
The Ski Club is a six-week after school activity at Maple Ski Ridge, which begins Thursday, 1/4/07. Registration fees are still being accepted at Maple Ski Ridge. However, if our club is full, parent/ guardian will need to find transportation to Maple Ski Ridge. Duanesburg students in the club are reminded that you cannot bring your ski equipment to school. Parents need to bring your equipment to Maple Ski Ridge. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. McGarry, Ski Club coordinator, at 355-1320.

Ski For Half Price
Maple Ski Ridge is helping support local food pantries in Schenectady County again this year. Our Lady of Fatima Food Pantry and Bethesda House are two agencies that will benefit from this food drive. Bring in 4 non-perishable food items to donate to the food drive and skiers/supporters of Bethesda House can ski for half price off a lift ticket on Tuesday, 2/20/07, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Reduced lift ticket cost is $13.00)

Early Dismissal - January 24
On Wednesday, 1/24/07, school dismisses at 10:55 a.m. at the elementary school, 11:15 at the MS/HS, and PM kindergarten attends school this day.

Elementary School Drop-Off
Thank you for your support in dropping off students after 8:05 a.m. in the morning. There is a light installed at the entrance of the driveway. Parents/guardians can drop off their child(ren) when the green light is displayed after 8:05 a.m. Our school buses discharge students between 7:55 – 8:05 a.m. Separating bus and car from student drop offs has resulted in a safe and quick transition for students to arrive at school. If we are operating at a one or two-hour delay, the installed light will not be operating. For a 1-hour delay, please drop off your child after 9:05 a.m., for a 2-hour delay please drop off after 10:05 a.m. Please do not drop off earlier. Please make alternative arrangements for your children to arrive at the designated time during school delays, as staff are delayed as well and we do not have supervision prior to the opening of school. Thank you!

Telephone Use
Telephone use by students in the main office is reserved for emergency reasons. There are many after-school activities that children are involved in each month (Student Council, Chess Club, Extended Art, Community Service, Ski Club, etc.). Permission slips are signed and dates are given in advance so parents can mark calendars at home. We ask parents to please remind your child(ren) the night before and on the day of their after-school activity that they are staying after for their activity, and what pickup arrangements they are to follow. This should eliminate unnecessary visits to the main office to make telephone calls. Thank you for your support.
