Vote for your favorite book
Nominations being accepted for the 3 Apples Book
Award
October
7, 2008 - Beginning in September 2008, students in
third- through sixth-grade have been nominating
their all-time favorite book as part of the primary
election for the New York State 3 Apples Book
Award, a New York State Children's Choice Award.
All nominations must be submitted to Library Media
Specialist Donna Wilkes by Oct. 20, 2008.
The
top 15 student-selected titles will be compiled and
announced in November. Students will be encouraged
to read at least three books from the list of
nominees, and vote again on their favorite book from
the list of nominees in April 2009. The winner of
the 2008-09 3 Apples Award will be announced
shortly after the results have been compiled.
Please
be aware that only those students who voted in the
primary election will be able to cast their vote
during the general election in April.
The
award program was developed by the Youth Services
and School Library Media Sections of the New York
Library Association to encourage the joy of reading
for pleasure and to give students the opportunity to
participate in honoring their favorite books.
Good
luck and may the best book win!

Oct. 7, 2008 - While any season is perfect for
reading, there's nothing quite like spending a cool,
fall evening snuggled up with a warm blanket and a
good book.
To help
build your child's library collection, a large selection
of books will be available for purchase during Duanesburg
Elementary School's Scholastic Book Fair during the week of
Oct. 27-31. Mark your calendar for a special family
night set for Thursday, Oct. 30 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Thirty percent of the profits from this annual
library fundraiser benefits the elementary school
library. The profits from past fairs have been used
to purchase a sofa, chair and ottoman, which are now
located in the library for student use.
"We regularly tell our children that reading is fun,
but we have few places students can read and relax,"
said Duanesburg Elementary School Library Media
Specialist Donna Wilkes. "Now our students can sit
comfortably and enjoy a good book or magazine.
Thanks to everyone for helping to make this dream a
reality."
Visit the
Scholastic Web page
to browse the featured books, chapter samples and
downloadable forms. Students can even create a wish list
online, which they can print and bring with them to the
fair. Families may also contribute to their classroom
libraries through a special program.
Don't miss
this chance to see Clifford and to light up a young reader’s face with a good
book. We hope to see you there!
