Capital Project Update
August 2007
Capital Project
renovations take shape this summer
Students, faculty and
staff returning to Duanesburg Middle/High School in September
can expect to see some significant changes around campus.
Work began in earnest this summer to start and complete a $1.398
million capital project, approved by voters in October 2006, to
fund renovations and improvements to the secondary campus.
Upgrading the technology room
A complete redesign of the technology room within its current
footprint is progressing and is expected to be ready for
students by the start of the school year allowing them complete
access to this more effective learning space that houses a
technology lab, sound proof TV/radio stations and multipurpose
media technology room.
The room was completely disassembled to reorganize the space.
Walls were freshly painted and a new ventilation system was
installed. Cabinetry is expected to be delivered in early
September with installation to begin around the beginning of
school.
Star facilities for star athletes
Last school year was the greatest yet for athletic achievements
in Duanesburgs history. Now the district will have first-rate
facilities for its top-notch athletes and students. The boys and
girls locker rooms are being completely renovated to enhance
their functionality and appearance. Plumbing has been updated so
athletes, students and visiting teams will have access to
improved showers.
Art Annex
The art annex was connected to the municipal water and sewer
system. The new, handicap accessible bathroom and sink are being
installed as well as new walls and new flooring.
Improving student safety
Nine new digital security cameras were installed this summer
bringing the total to 16 cameras strategically placed inside and
outside of buildings throughout the district. The new digital
system, enhances security and replaces the older analog system.
A new digital video recorder system was also installed at the
elementary school.
Site-work was completed in the lower parking lot in preparation
for paving. Students should be able to park on the newly paved
lot starting this fall.
Heating controls and lighting improvements are underway to
regulate classroom temperatures and conserve energy.
