Proposed
Spending Initiatives
In addition to implementing full-day kindergarten, the proposed budget includes
$129,000 in new spending initiatives, which will be offset by
$219,000 in reductions. The additions will help meet state
mandates, increase communications and ensure the safety of
staff. Staffing figures, below, include salary and benefit
costs.
- $52,000 to
add a full-time
physical education teacher to meet state mandates.
-
$22,000 to
increase a Spanish teaching position from part-time to
full-time to provide enrichment at the elementary school.
-
$2,000 to purchase School News Notifier (SNN),
an opt-in e-mail alert system designed to keep parents and
the community informed of district happenings. In addition,
the district plans to add a search engine to its Web site,
www.duanesburg.org, to make navigation easier.
-
$44,000 to increase the
part-time chief information officer position to
full-time to better meet state requirements for reporting
student test data. Currently, the chief information officer serves
the district one day per week, which is
not adequate time to fulfill this requirement. In this
expanded role, the chief information officer would also
provide technical assistance, eliminating the need for the
existing part-time computer coordinator position.
-
$9,000 to repair a lift in the bus garage to ensure the
safety of mechanics.
