Congratulations to
Duanesburg's wrestlers!
During the
New York State Public High School
Athletic Association's wrestling championships
on March 8 and 9, Brian Borst won the the state
title for his weight class in Division II. Wes
Coppola placed sixth, while David Larson and
Randy White held their own during the state
competition.

He or she is "a born leader." That's a phase
we've all heard or used at one time or another.
But in reality, most leaders are not born into
it. Leadership is a quality that is nurtured
over time through education, role modeling, and
often through athletics.

Congratulations Fall Scholar/Athlete Teams!
This fall was a record setting season for scholar/athlete teams.
All 5 varsity
teams achieved the New York State Scholar Athlete Team Award. To
qualify, each team must have a cumulative grade-point average of
more than 90 percent. Congratulations! All scholar/athletes were
honored with a special breakfast in December.

Girls Varsity
Cross Country team wins third consecutive Section 2 Class D team
title
Led by first year coach
Julie Littlefield, the girls cross country team won their 3rd
consecutive Section 2 Class D team title. The girls individual
finishes were: Ashley Jackman (2), Lauren Mcgarry (3), Natash
Degiule (4), Joan Kanarkiewicz (5), Ashlyn Mcgarry (11), Emily
Deguile (12), Tasha Bradt (14), Catie Coxon (17), Laura White (21)
and Allison Paludi (45). The team of seven, along with one alternate
will represent Section 2 and Duanesburg in the state meet at
Norwood/Norfork High School on Saturday, Nov. 10.
Kyle Lynch wins Boys Class D Cross Country Race
Kyle Lynch won the Boys Class D cross country race, qualifying for
the state meet at Norwood/Norfork High School on Saturday, Nov. 10.
Lynch finished first out of 95 runners. The Duanesburg Boys Cross
Country team finished 6th. Other finishes included, Ben Lynch (27),
Wes Copollo (29), Phil Dexter (37), Jack Kenyon (48), Kietn Bubb
(55), Geoff Fish (60), and Ryan Murphy (61).
Boys
Varsity Soccer team reaches Class C Finals
The boys varsity soccer team defeated three teams to reach the Class
C final game. The 10th seeded Eagles defeated 7th seed Mayfield,
then 2nd seeded Fort Plain and 3rd seeded Waterford before falling
to number 1 seed and defending state champion Maple Hill in the
finals.
Girls Varsity Soccer players named WAC
All-Stars
Stephanie Miller and Lauren McGarry were named 1st team WAC
All-Stars and 2nd team Katie Littlefield and Beth Smith.
Golf team
finishes a great first season
The golf team, coached by Robert Bigley, won six matches in its
first season. Raffaele Reifenrother was named WAC 1st team All-Star.
Volleyball team receives honors
Stephanie Holt was named WAC MVP while Chelsey Charpentier was named
MVP Setter. Lindsay Matz and Marissa Vrooman were named 2nd team WAC
All-Stars.

Winter 2006-07
Great job Duanesburg wrestlers!
Congratulations to Amy Whitbeck for winning the Female
National Championship! The championships were
held in late-March in Levonia, Michigan. Amys opponent
in the finals was a girl from Wisconsin who was last
years national champion. Amy won the finals by a score
of 3 to 1 and in winning the finals was voted the
tournaments Most Valuable Wrestler. Amy Whitbeck
was
also featured as a Dunkin' Donuts High School
Athlete of the Week on WNYT-13.
Congratulations also go out to the varsity wrestling
team, which was Class D Champions and placed fourth in the Section 2
Dual Meet Championships. Brian Borst and Amy Whitbeck were Section 2
Champions. Juniors Brian Borst and Wesley Coppolo
both earned 100
wins in their career during a December match. Brian Borst and
Nick Gwiazdowski also won the Northeast Folkstyle
Challenge Tournament at Shenendehowa in late-March.

Duanesburg Wrestling
Coach Joe Bena reached his 500th career victory on Thursday,
December 21, against Berne-Knox Westerlo.
Bena is the most successful
coach in New York State history. His success comes after more than
41 seasons of coaching. After retiring from the Niskayuna school
district, Bena joined DCS in 2003.

and Cheerleading teams receive recognition
The district's bowling team, which was established this year,
finished with two WAC All Stars; Shane Waldron and Beth Smith.
DCS cheerleaders Britney Radz
placed first and Stephanie Siegel placed second in an
independent cheerleading competition in Amsterdam.

Fall sports teams recognized for academic performance
Congratulations
to Duanesburg student athletes on the girls' soccer and cross
country teams! Both were named Scholar/Athlete teams by the New
York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for their performance
in the classroom as well as their success on the athletic
fields. To achieve this honor, high school teams in New York
State must maintain
a cumulative average of 90 percent or above. Both teams will be
recognized during a Scholar Athlete breakfast on on Wednesday,
December 13, at 7:45 a.m.

Girls cross country finishes third in state
The girls' cross
country team had an outstanding fall season. They were class D
sectional champions, sending their entire team of 7 girls to the
state championships in Warwick on November 11 where they finished
third. This was the highest cross country team finish in school
history.

The boys' cross country team finished second in the Section 2
Class D meet. They came in second with 60 points, behind North
Warren with 43 points. Greg Cashdollar and Bradley Savoy
finished in the top 8 to qualify for the state championships in
Warwick on November 11. Congratulations on a fine season!

Boys Varsity
Soccer
The boys' varsity soccer
team finished second in the WAC Southern Division for one of their
highest finishes in many years. They won their first sectional game
versus Fort Plain, 3-1 and then lost a hard fought game to highly
ranked and undefeated Galway, 2-0. John Michael Iseman and Ivan
Ricci were selected to the elite seniors All-Star team.

Girls Varsity
Soccer
The girls varsity soccer team made it to the Class C Finals. On the
way they defeated Albany Academy, 3-1 and Rensselaer, 3-2. Sam Traver, Molly Cronin and Lauren McGarry were voted to the WAC
All-Star team.
DCS Senior Nha Wright finished out
the season with the all-time section 2 career goals soccer record
with a total of 184 goals! She was also voted co-MVP of the Western
Athletic Conference League and featured as the Dunkin' Donuts
Athlete of the Week on News Channel 13 in mid-October.
Girls Volleyball
The girls volleyball team won
their third straight southern division WAC league title. Team
members included Stephanie Holt, Brooke Rowley, Kirstin Vrooman,
Chelsey Charpenteir, Caitlin Fields, Hannah White, Lindsay Matz,
Rachel Harrington and Marrissa Vrooman. Great job!
