District proposes 0% tax impact capital project vote, July 2

Duanesburg Central School District residents are asked to go to the polls on Monday, July 2, to vote on a $599,000 capital improvement project that carries a 0 percent tax increase. The project, if approved, will allow the district to replace sections of leaking roofs at the middle/high and elementary schools, apply insulation and finish to the exterior walls at the middle/high school and upgrade restrooms at the middle/high school to be handicap accessible as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. DCS athletes break school’s 1984 track record set by mothers and aunts

At the Cherry Valley Kyle Hysack Invitational held in May, under the lights, the Duanesburg Girls’ varsity track 4-by-400 relay team broke the school’s record of 4:13.0 when they took first place in the relay with a time of 4:12.8. [READ FULL STORY]

 

Residents approve 2012-13 school budget

May 15, 2012

On Tuesday, May 15, voters approved the 2012-13 school budget by a vote of 376 to 238. They also approved the bus proposition by a vote of 338 to 271. Residents re-elected to the board incumbent Christina Loukides and newcomers Tina Gamache and Dirk Felton. The school budget for next school year totals $14,196,703 and carries a 2.86 percent tax levy increase, which is within New York State's new tax levy 'cap' legislation. The approved budget represents a 0.91 percent or less than 1 percent spending increase over the current year's budget. Thank you for voting.

 

19 students inducted into the National Honor Society

At the May 15 ceremony, 19 students were inducted into the National Honor Society. The National honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. DCS students take first and second place in area art show

Teanne Schmaeh, an 11th-grade student at Duanesburg High School, took first place in the 24th Annual Arts and Enrichment Art Show held at Capital Region BOCES. Runner up was senior Laura Antillion. [READ MORE]

 

Board approves free pilot football program

April 4, 2012

At its April 3 meeting, the DCS board voted 4 to 3 to accept the Schoburg Booster Club’s proposal to start a fully funded, two-year shared football program. The program will create a Duanesburg-Schoharie Junior Varsity football team, allowing middle and high school students an opportunity to play football on a school team. The Schoharie Central School District board must also approve the proposal in order for the football program to be implemented in both districts. DCS creates Hall of Fame, accepting nominations

March 26, 2012

In an effort to recognize DCS graduates who have distinguished themselves in their professions, their avocations and their communities, the distirct has established a Hall of Fame in which to highlight them. Members of the public are encouraged to help the district build its Hall of Fame by nominating DCS graduates who they believe are worthy of admissions. No school, May 18 and May 25

March 26, 2012

Currently, the district has unused snow days. If the snow days remain unused, there will be no school for students on Friday, May 18. However, all employees will report to work as usual with the day dedicated to training on the new mandatory Dignity for All Students legislation and Professional Development. Furthermore, there will be no school for students and staff on Friday, May 25 if the snow days remain unused. Check back for an update if a snow day is used between now and May 25.

 

Long-Term Planning Forum Question & Answer document available

February 16, 2012

At the district's January 24 Long-Term Planning Forum, participants were asked to submit questions on index cards that would be reviewed and answered at a later date.  Over the past few weeks, district leaders put together a 10-page document answering nearly every question submitted at the forum. This document will remain a work in progress and will be updated with new questions and answers. If you have a question regarding the forum and the future of Duanesburg, please submit it to Communications Specialist Tara Mitchell at tmitchell@duanesburg.org.
